Probiotic Solution for Nutritive Soaked Feed
Enhancing palatability, preventing contamination, and improving milk yield through probiotic-based soaked feed.
Advantages
Stimulates partial digestion of nitrogen-rich feed ingredients in soaked feed
Improves palatability and feed intake
Imparts a natural fruity odour
Prevents contamination by aerobic microorganisms in nitrogen-rich wet feed
Increases milk yield without adding stress to the animals
What is Soaked Feed?
Soaked feed is the practice of preparing ruminant feed ingredients (e.g., coarse corn, cotton seed cake, groundnut cake) in wet form before feeding.
Powder-form feed ingredients are mixed with water to avoid wastage during feeding.
Hard cake-form feed ingredients are softened by soaking in water.
The typical ratio of agricultural residue to water is 1:2, soaked for 6–8 hours before feeding.
This process improves handling, but without microbial support, soaked feed can spoil quickly.
Role of Microorganisms in Soaked Feed
Probiotic microorganisms play a critical role in transforming soaked feed into a nutritious, palatable diet:
Break down cellulosic and hemicellulosic material, releasing nitrogen in amino acid form.
Release simple sugars and organic acids, creating a fruity aroma and protein-rich feed.
Prevent contamination by harmful aerobic microorganisms that would otherwise spoil wet feed.
Specific probiotics like Bacillus, Lactobacillus, and Yeasts ensure soaked feed remains safe, digestible, and flavourful for ruminants.
